the varieties of prayer
When Burmese Buddhists take leave of their elders - parents, great aunts, and so forth - they kneel before them, bring hands together and touch forehead to ground, give thanks, ask forgiveness, and receive a blessing. This is the gadaw. A great act of mutual love, which I have again seen in my home, this morning.
