coming home

Why not marriages of more than two?  (Not as a matter of law or society, but simply as a matter of private good.)  Chiefly, I think, because the love of one other can be unconditional - and can be unwavering - in a way that a love of more than one cannot.  Because comparisons between two are inevitable, and there is something lovely and needful in present love of the incomparable.  And only one may be both incomparable and present.
