thinking fast

I've heard researchers of human psychology claim that, under ordinary circumstances, we understand statements we hear by trying to believe them.  That is, we ordinarily attempt to integrate rather than to analyze, and evaluate a claim based on the results of the attempted integration.  That rings true to me.
