Student loans are nondischargable in bankruptcy except under the most extraordinary and miserable circumstances. This inescapable debt magnifies risks and anxiety, and constrains. It also engenders sympathy - the thought that not greed but fear drives much that passes for avarice, slavish work, monetary desperation and, yes, probably some of what passes for entrepreneurial spirit and wealth creation, too.
