The proper setting is a precondition to an individual's actualization. It is often possible for one to know which settings are wrong from the start, but one can only know which settings are right in hindsight. Adams (any of them) would have been a nobody in South Carolina. Calhoun would might well have turned out to have been a prominent transcendentalist, rather than an evil genius, had he been set in Massachusetts.
