Someone wrote a book about the human pattern of bursts of activity spaced like stars in our inert spaces of inactivity - that this is how we work, most of us. Not like machines.
True, true. For me anyhow: I read about this book and felt sure-enough exposed. I've always been a firefighter, who likes to laze around in the ready room of my mind, then go racing off, sirens wailing, to douse the flames of a project. I've even been known to set a project blazing (usually by screwing with the deadlines) just so I can get myself motivated enough, by the thrill of having to put the resulting fire out, to get the damn thing done.
