quiver full
Hamilton's letters to his friends are breathtaking. Gobsmacking. They are brilliant and loyal, but clumsy, hasty, resentful, crude, overblown. This is a man that, to be made useful, probably required all the tact and pose and gravity of Washington. Who come to think of it probably needed a few sticks of human dynamite like Hamilton in his retinue.
